I could eat this Jamaican Beef Patty Skillet every week and never get tired of it. The recipe is SO easy, flavorful, inexpensive, and perfect for a weeknight meal. A few years ago I made these Jamaican beef patties from April’s blog Whisk it Real Gud for a football game. They were amazing. I had really been craving them. However, since I watch my carb intake most days the flakey pastry wasn’t going to work out for me. I improvised and did my own spin on the recipe. Using the same flavors but adjusting the ingredients to fit my lifestyle. Boy am I happy I did. Now I can enjoy these flavors whenever I want and not have to worry about taking an extra scoop or two! April, I will always be thankful for this recipe, it is one of my favorites.
I like to serve this with another splash of scotch bonnet hot sauce and some sour cream to cool it off. This dish can be as mild or spicy as you like. We love spicy food. But since we made this for the kids too I took out the seeds of the peppers and made it hotter with the hot sauce to taste. I made the kids a side of traditional rice and mixed it with a few scoops of the beef mix.
Jamaican Beef Patty Skillet Recipe Tips
- Scotch bonnets can be hard to find in my area, they are VERY hot and a little bit fruity. Hands down my favorite hot pepper. I grow them in the summer. If I make this during the winter I will probably have to use the more common habanero pepper, or just use hot sauce instead.
- This World Market curry powder is the one I use
- I love Trader Joes frozen organic cauliflower rice, if you do not have one near you I have also seen it at the regular grocery as well as Aldi. Worst case, just buy a head of cauliflower and take it to a box grater.

Jamaican Beef Patty Skillet
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 teaspoon oil
- 1 yellow bell pepper diced, about 4oz
- 1/4 red onion diced, about 2.5 oz
- 2 scotch bonnet peppers minced, keep seeds in for extra heat, remove for less heat.
- 1 1/2 teaspoons hot curry powder I use World Market brand
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- pinch ground cayenne pepper
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
- 12 ounce bag cauliflower rice
- 2 scallions chopped
- salt
Instructions
- In a large skillet heat the oil over medium-high, add the ground beef and saute while breaking it up for 5 minutes. Season with salt.
- Add the yellow pepper, scotch bonnet peppers, and the onion. Saute this for 5 minutes stirring every so often. At any point if it feels like everything is getting too hot or has a chance of burning, turn your heat down.
- Add the curry powder, garlic powder, cayenne, paprika, onion powder, and thyme. Saute this for 5 minutes stirring often. Add your cauliflower rice and stir to combine and heat through. Taste and season with more salt as needed. Top with the green onion and serve. You can top it with hot sauce and sour cream if you desire.
