Look out here comes the Lion Guard! Are you looking for Lion Guard birthday party ideas? Look no further, I love to jazz up the whole house in whatever the character of the moment is and feel like a kid again. First, make a run to the party store for essentials. Usually a fun table cloth, the springy things we hang from the ceiling, and a banner. Everything else we save money on and do at home. Here is what we came up with for the Lion Guard theme. My kids loved it and all the adults had a great time laughing at the names and asking about this mysterious( to them) show. The last thing they remembered from Disney was the original Lion King. For the cards all we did was clip art the logo using Word, then type the name of the dish underneath, and sized them to about the same dimensions. Then we glued them onto a half sheet of construction paper folded in half to make a tent. Easy peasy and the kids can help too.
The Cake
I can not take credit for this cake but I can share my tips on getting a unique custom cake from the local grocer. Kroger is my favorite, their baker Magda does a great job. I bring in little toys that will fit on the cake and give them an idea. For example, this one I told them “jungle-like” and let them roll with it. They always give me the cake with the toys on the side so I can place them when I get home. If you need to know exactly what the cake will look like this tip will not work for you. You never know exactly what you are going to get, but I have always been pleasantly surprised. It is after all only a cake, I’m pretty sure any cake with a few of your kid’s favorite toys will always be a hit.
The Whole Spread
Here is the spread, we always do it on our kitchen island as it is the perfect place for people to mingle. I also found some temporary tattoos, cut them up, and laid then around the table.
Venomous Veggies
Instead of spending 14.99 on a veggie tray just make your own. Cut the veggies the night before and throw them in a ziplock bag. This is a small crown of broccoli, a bag of mini carrots, 1 cucumber, and some mini peppers I had cut in half. We LOVE ranch in this house. This is Hidden Valley Original Ranch Salad Mix made to their instructions.
Kions Sausage Rolls and Bunga Balls
These Bunga Balls were a hit. Bunga is the little honey badger in the bottom right of the picture, Kion is the main lion you see (Simba’s son). Bunga Balls were frozen meatballs simmered in some BBQ and a bit of water until warmed through (I served them right out of the pot). The sausage rolls are a pack of crescent rolls opened up and cut into strips, wrapped around little smokies. Bake them at the recommended temperature on the crescent rolls and cook for 10-20 minutes. Just watch then so they do not burn.
Ono’s Eagle Eggs
Ono is a bird on the show who is a member of the guard. Just your basic deviled egg here, nothing fancy but always a crowd-pleaser. I put all my filling into a gallon ziplock bag, cut off the tip and pipe them in. I think it is easier than using a spoon for each one.
Makuu’s Swamp Dip
Makku is a crocodile who makes an appearance on the show every now and again. Here I have some spinach dip in a bread bowl. Just buy a large round loaf and cut out the insides for dippers and fill with the desired dip.
