Gruffalo Birthday Party

The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson is my youngest son’s favorite book at the moment so there was no hesitation when we decided to throw an easy Gruffalo birthday party this year. He can’t get enough of it! If you haven’t read it yet, it’s a story about a mouse who pretends he going to have lunch with a monster to avoid some hungry forest predators. To his surprise the monster is real! It’s a cleverly written and illustrated book that the whole house enjoys.

The food for the party had to cover a few things, the kids have to like it, it has to be easy to prepare, and it has to go along with the story of the Gruffalo. With some help from the store, we were able to pull off a pretty epic Gruffalo party for my little man. Look below for details for all of our food and my picks from Amazon. The plush toys below are authentic and my boy LOVES them. They were a gift from his Mimi. Just be aware they come from the UK to no 2-day shipping if you are here in the States. Even so, it only took 1 week for them to get here. They are the perfect size for a sleeping buddy or a friend to drag along for the day. Also, do not miss the free printables straight from the Gruffalo website.

A huge thank you goes out to all of the readers, cooks, food enthusiasts, friends, and keto warriors who support this blog! Come and follow our Facebook page where we post all of our new recipes and ideas! Feel free to check out some of my recipes here!

Easy Gruffalo Birthday Party Ideas

The Cakes

We took some help from my local Meijer for the cakes. We bought the fox cake from the bakery and then just added purple sprinkles to a plain chocolate cake for the purple prickles.

Knobbly Knees

Knobbly knees were a creamy mac and cheese with shell noodles. Homemade or from a box, it’s up to you. We used a creamy mac recipe we found on Pinterest.

Turned out Toes

Frozen chicken fries were our turned out toes and the kids’ favorite item.

Gruffalo Crumble

As much as I wanted to make a berry crumble I needed something my 4-year-old loves (it was his birthday after all). So cut up granola bars were served up for Gruffalo crumble.

His Eyes are Orange

This was an easy one, mandarin oranges. You could color eyes on them with a sharpie but we just went for natural. I wasn’t sure if the sharpie would seep through the peel if we had leftovers.

His Tounge is Black

Blue corn chips and salsa were the Gruffalo’s black tongue.

Terrible Tusks

A simple pack of veggies straws served as the terrible tusks.

Scrambled Snake

We served a coleslaw for “scrambled snake” . This is a favorite in out house, you can find the recipe here.

Roasted Fox

BBQ chicken in the crockpot was out “roasted fox” . I just did 6 pounds of chicken breast with a half bottle of our favorite bbq and cooked it on high for 4 hours and shredded it. We served this with little slider buns.

Slithering Snake Veggies

Make a veggie tray and place the cucumber in the middle so it looks like it is slithering through the rest of the veggies! For the dip we did sour cream mixed with a pack of Lipton onion soup mix. It is a family favorite and couldn’t be easier.
